Letter to our Parents and Providers from RCCS - Cartes a nuestros padres y proveedores de RCCS from Diana Avila, Child Development Program Director

Estmadas familias,

Dear families,
River to Coast Children’s Services would like to remind you of the importance your actions make towards cutting down the spread of COVID-19 in our community. It is important to continue to take precautions during these times, more so now that the flu season has come. We encourage you to continue to follow protocols, such as washing your hands regularly, using a face covering (including children 2 and up), using hand sanitizer and cleaning and sanitizing frequently. Above all, we recommend and encourage families to stay home if they’re feeling symptoms and get tested.

The Sonoma County Department of Health Services encourages families to test children that have COVID-19 symptoms or were in close contact with those who tested positive for COVID-19. The department of health services has noted that children and adults can have very mild symptoms but that 20-40% of people have no symptoms at all, thus considering them asymptomatic. The health department and River to Coast Children’s Services also recommends not attending or planning reunions, but if it’s necessary to enforce basic health and safety protocols such as using face coverings and maintaining social distance.

We recommend that if children are feeling COVID like symptoms, such as a cough, fever or runny nose to stay home, get tested and await results. These protocols could help prevent the spread and reduce contagion in child care settings. It is par@cularly important to take extra precautions with our child care providers as there has been a decline of availability in our community. We are offering resources that you might benefit from during these challenging times. Please feel free to pass them on to those who may need them.

Estimado proveedor,

Dear provider,
We thank you for continuing to support your families and care for children. We know these past few months have tested us all greatly, and given our current situation it seems it will continue that way for some time, unless we work together to cut down the spread. That being said, River to Coast Children’s Services would like to remind you of the importance in maintaining high health and safety standards in your care. We encourage you to continue to follow protocols, such as washing your hands regularly, using a face covering (including children 2 and up), using hand sanitizer and cleaning and sanitizing frequently. Above all, we recommend and encourage families to stay home if they’re feeling symptoms and get tested.

River to Coast Children’s Services recognizes it might be difficult to enforce policies that might affect the provider and families, but it’s important to understand the severity we’re facing in our county. The Sonoma County Department of Health Services and RCCS recommend the following: If the provider or the families test positive for COVID-19 (or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19) it’s recommended that you inform your families or those you have had contact with, call the health department and schedule a test. COVID-19 tests should not be limited to adults only as research has seen that children (and adults) could be asymptomatic, therefor spreading the virus. The department of health will support you in determining next steps.

We recommend that you apply strict health and safety policies and procedures at all times in your care. You play an important role in preventing the spread and contagion of COVID-19 in Sonoma County. We are offering resources that you might benefit from during these challenging times. Please feel free to pass them on to those who may need them.
